If you go that route post back for instructions. When I go to download app from store I get a message stating 'iMovie can’t be installed on OSX because OS X version 11.5.1 or later is required.'. Still, you might try downloading it and then seeing if you can upgrade to iMovie 10 from iMovie 9.0.9. If it is iMovie 9 that is in your Purchased folder unfortunately iMovie 9 does not function on Mojave- at least not on mine. It's a great program, but a little tricky to download. I had backed up my imovies library before reinstalling os. That iMovie from 2012 must be version 9 as 10 was not released till 2013 I believe. Since you are running Mojave, you might be able to purchase iMovie 6 from a third party vendor, (Amazon, ebay) as part of the iLife 6 or iLife 9 package. You might be able to find an iMovie 10 download on a non-Apple authorized site, but those sites sometimes contain malware and are neither safe nor recommended. Having iMovie for iOS on your phone would have no bearing on whether you can get iMovie for Mac on your Mac. IMovie for iOS is a different program than iMovie for Mac. Second hand machines usually have had iMovie 10 removed, and you can't update/download the iMovie app because it had been purchased with a different Apple I.D than yours. Mac computers that are bought new come loaded with iMovie 10. In any event, if you have, or ever have had, iMovie 10 on your Mac (even if you deleted or lost it) you can update to the highest iMovie version that your present operating system will run. It is not necessary that iMovie 10 still be on your computer, but only that it was on your Mac at one point in time, and that it had been purchased with your Apple I.D. I know that you can go to iMovie 10.1.14 on Mojave, but not sure whether it will go to 10.1.2, as I jumped to Catalina before updating iMovie further. If they can use iMovie, they can certainly figure out how to update through the Mac App Store. MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 when I try to launch iMovie (version 9.0. The upgrade is pretty easy to do, this seems like the best option. I don't think it's available anymore, since the OS upgrade is free. Try the procedure that I described anyway, and see what happens. The last version compatible with Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) is version 10.0.5. If you have never had iMovie 10 on your Mac before then there is no way to download it.
